The first thing you notice when you see a Ragdoll is its size. Females typically weigh between 3 and 6 kilograms, and males between 5 and 10 kilograms. This makes them three times larger than "normal" cats! The Ragdoll is one of the largest bred cat breeds in the world and is even mentioned in the Book of World Records. Ragdolls grow slowly, taking about 3 to 4 years to reach full maturity and develop their final coloring.
Ragdolls are large, muscular, and heavily built, with a powerful chest and broad shoulders. Their eyes are large, oval, and always blue, with a preference for a darker blue shade. Their ears are large and rounded, pointing slightly forward. The angle of the ears resembles a ski slope. The tail is long and full.
The coat is medium-length, silky, and normally doesn't mat. They usually have longer fur around their neck and on their shoulders.
All Ragdolls are "pointed" cats, which means their face, ears, paws, and tail are darker than the rest of their body. Point kittens are born white, with their colors and patterns gradually becoming visible. Ragdolls darken with age, and young cats typically have the greatest contrast between their points and body color.
The colors of the Ragdoll are Seal, Blue, Chocolate, Lilac, Red, Cream, and Tortie, all of which can also come in Lynx (tabby). The Ragdoll appears in three main varieties: Colourpoint, Mitted, and Bicolor.
Colourpoint: The mask, ears, paws, and tail are colored, with the body color being lighter. The chest is usually lighter than the rest of the body. A colourpoint should absolutely have no white.
Mitted: Mitted means "gloved." In a mitted Ragdoll, the points are colored, but the front paws have white mittens, and the hind legs have higher white boots. There is also a white stripe running from the chin to the base of the tail, called the belly stripe. Some mitted Ragdolls also have a white blaze on their nose.
Bicolor: The mask is colored but contains an inverted white "V." The tail and ears are colored. The chin, chest, belly, and paws are white.
